...and guess who forgot to take his bolt-on hubcaps to the garage when he was getting his tires swapped over. I could take all the wheels off to put the Hubcaps on myself, but our driveway isn’t quite flat to use a jack on and our cul-de-sac is a gravel road that is muddy and soft to the Nth degree from several days of rain , so I don’t really have a place to do it...

Man my winter rims are rusty...should try and sand them down and repaint them next year...

Arent the hubcaps mounted in between the lugs and the wheels anyways? Meaning you should be able to just remove the lugs with the car on the wheels, place the hubcaps on, and then bolt them down. Should be fine assuming you dont move the car. But I always prefer bare steelies anyways, assuming you do something about the rust!

Steelies are better anyway (even rusty)

I dunno, I quite like the ‘98 Ford Escort (NA spec) aluminum rims summer tires are on....

I just meant better than steelies with hubcaps.

Yup, between the lugs and the wheels, but I don’t like the idea of unbolting wheels when the car not on a jack or jack stands...lol

You could put chocks on the wheel to hold it in place if you were really worried. I dont see what could go wrong really. Your torque settings for the lugs wont be perfect when mounted like that but its not enough to be concerned about. I often loosen all 16 lugs before even lifting the car and theres not much difference between them being loose and off at that point. Doing just one wheel is a nonrisk unless you were parked on a curb or extreme hill id think.

Do you have any patio stones? They make a great base for a jack.
